Guide, updated 6 Nov 2026

The best restaurant websites, tested on a phone.

The best restaurant websites get a diner to the menu, the hours and a table in one or two taps. We opened 20 of them on a phone and scored each on seven checks: ten from the top-grossing independent restaurants in the US, and ten picked by published design roundups. Here are the scores, and what to copy from each.

04Compared

What sells, and what gets picked.

The restaurants that sell the most make booking and calling easier. The roundup favorites are better at opening hours. Neither group does it all.

05What to copy

Restaurant website design: seven things to get right.

  1. Book or order, on the first screen

Twelve of the 20 do this. Put one button where a thumb lands. If you take orders online, link your own ordering page first: NCR Voyix found 58% of US customers prefer a restaurant's own app or website for delivery.

  2. A menu in real text

Owner surveyed 1,300 US guests, and 80% said they visit mainly to see the menu. Eighteen of our 20 use text, which reads at any size. A PDF is fine as an extra.

  3. A phone link that works

Twelve of the 20 have one. Romero Verde prints its number as plain text, so a tap does nothing. It is one line of code.

  4. The address on the homepage

Fourteen of the 20 show a street address. Put it in the footer of every page, as text people can paste into a map.

  5. Hours on the homepage

The most missed check: only 10 of the 20 pass. Delilah goes further and says if it is open right now. Keep the hours the same as on your Google profile.

  6. No pop-up on arrival

Five of the 20 opened with a promotion over the page, from a holiday menu to a $25 offer. Google advises small banners instead of full page interstitials, so the offer can sit in a banner.

  7. A page under 5 MB

Eight of the 20 are heavier, and seven pass 10 MB. Start with the video and the largest photos. The 5 MB line is ours, not a Google rule.

06Read with care

How to read a best restaurant websites list.

  1. They rarely agree

We counted 120 picks across eight lists. Six restaurants appear on two lists, and none on three. "Best" there means one writer's taste.

  2. Some picks are demos or dead links

Ten of the 19 on Webflow's list live at webflow.io addresses, which usually means a template or a demo. At least 5 of the 103 linked sites failed on 6 Nov 2026, from a dead domain to a suspended account.

  3. The writer sells something

Hostinger, BentoBox, Webflow, Framer and Dorik all sell a way to build the site. We sell restaurant websites too, so check our numbers the same way.

07Your options

Where to build it, and what it costs.

From doing it yourself to a custom site, with the prices each company publishes.

RoutePublished priceWorth knowing
Website builder: Squarespace$12 to $36 a month, by plan and billingYou set up the menu, booking and ordering yourself.
Website builder: WixAbout $18 to $160 a month, billed yearlyWix says its prices vary by location.
Restaurant platform: Owner.com$249 a month plus 5% per order, or $499 a monthIts page also lists a 5% fee paid by guests on both plans.
Restaurant platform: BentoBoxNo public priceIts page says it is for Clover POS customers only.
Custom site: WorvikFrom $750, or $0 to build$0 comes with a monthly plan from $99, a free first month and a 12-month minimum. The site is yours to keep.

Prices from each company's own pricing page, opened on 6 Nov 2026. Prices change, so check the page before you compare. Popmenu and Toast refused our visit, so they are not listed.

08Redesign concept

The redesign, page by page.

We rebuilt a past client's site as a concept. Open it on your phone: the menu is searchable text, and on the same test the homepage downloads 1.1 MB. Nothing on it sends anything.

Redesign concept · Restaurant and café bar, Sarajevo · Writing, design, motion, build

Vidikovac Zmajevac: the redesign.

A restaurant and café bar on a hill above Sarajevo, with its real name, photos and menu, rebuilt the way we build client sites: written, designed and hand-coded, in English and Bosnian.

  • 9pages: home, menu, photos and find us in English and Bosnian, plus a before and after
  • 223menu items as real text, searchable by dish or ingredient
  • 5moments in a day, from 08:00 to 00:00, that change what the site suggests

Vidikovac Zmajevac is a past client, and this is a redesign concept, not a live restaurant site. Phone, booking and forms are not connected. It shows the work, not results.

10Questions

Straight answers.

Still not sure?

Ask on a short call, or start with something free.

01What makes a good restaurant website?

It answers three questions fast on a phone: what is on the menu, when are you open, and how do I book or order. In our test that came down to seven checks, and no site passed all seven.

02What should a restaurant website include?

A homepage with a book or order button, the hours, the address and a phone link, plus a menu page in plain text. See our restaurant website design page for how we build one.

03How much does a restaurant website cost?

On the pricing pages we read, builders start at about $12 a month on a yearly plan, Owner.com starts at $249 a month, and our custom sites start at $750, or $0 to build with a monthly plan. More in what a website costs.

04Should a restaurant menu be a PDF?

Not on its own. Eighteen of the 20 sites use text. If you need a printable copy, link a PDF next to the text, as The Hamilton does.

05Are these restaurants Worvik clients?

No. We picked them by sales or from the roundups and scored them from a public visit. Our own restaurant example is the Vidikovac redesign concept on this page.

06How did you pick and test the 20?

Top sellers are ranks 1 to 10 in the Restaurant Business Top 100 Independents 2025. Roundup picks are the restaurants named on two of eight lists, plus the first linked pick of each list. Three of those are not scored: Old Lady Gang's site showed a suspended account, and Primanti Bros. and Loro keep hours and addresses behind a location search. We opened each homepage once at phone size, from Bosnia, and left cookie banners out of the score, because they differ by country. Hours folded behind one tap on the page count as a pass. Page size is what the phone downloaded in about 14 seconds without scrolling, so it can change from visit to visit.
