Restaurant website design

Restaurant website design with a menu people can actually read.

We rebuilt the site of Vidikovac Zmajevac, a past client above Sarajevo, to show what yours gets: a walk through the window into the view, the whole menu as searchable text and a Reserve button on every page. It is a redesign concept, not a live restaurant site.

  • From $750
  • Or $0 to build
  • Menu as real text
  • You own it

01Redesign concept

The redesign, page by page.

Open it and scroll: you walk across the dining room and through the window into the view. Then search the menu and watch the clock change what to order. Nothing on it sends anything.

Redesign concept · Restaurant and café bar, Sarajevo · Writing, design, motion, build

Vidikovac Zmajevac: the redesign.

A restaurant and café bar on a hill above Sarajevo, with its real name, photos and menu, rebuilt the way we build client sites: written, designed and hand-coded, in English and Bosnian.

  • 9pages: home, menu, photos and find us in English and Bosnian, plus a before and after
  • 223menu items as real text, searchable by dish or ingredient
  • 5moments in a day, from 08:00 to 00:00, that change what the site suggests

Vidikovac Zmajevac is a past client, and this is a redesign concept, not a live restaurant site. Phone, booking and forms are not connected. It shows the work, not results.

02Before and after

Old site, new site.

The same restaurant, the same photos and the same menu, built again from the first line.

What changedOld siteRedesign concept
MenuThree flipbooks on another website, 37 pages of imagesReal text on one page, with search, in two languages
Prices and notesInside the images, so phone users had to pinch and zoomReadable at any size, with notes like "Bosnian coffee until 16:00" next to the item
ReservationsOne phone numberA short table request, and a Reserve button that stays on screen on phones
LanguagesA second English copy of the same long pageEnglish and Bosnian versions of the home, menu, photos and find us pages

The concept never went live, so nothing here is a result. It shows what changed in the build.

03What works

What a restaurant website needs.

Six things, each with the number behind it and what the redesign does about it. Sources are at the bottom of this page.

The website decides

77%

of US adults said they are likely to visit a restaurant's website before they dine in or order out.

Source: MGH survey of 1,101 US adults, 2019 (a marketing agency)

What we do

The first screen answers the basics: what the place looks like, when it is open and how to book.

A bad site loses the table

68%

of them said a restaurant's website has put them off visiting, and 62% said one has put them off ordering.

Put off visiting68%

Put off ordering62%

What we do

Three plain links and a design made for the place, so nothing feels like an old template.

A menu that works on a phone

36%

said a hard-to-read menu stopped them ordering, and 36% said the same about a site that did not work on a phone.

Source: MGH survey of 1,101 US adults, 2019 (a marketing agency)

What we do

The whole menu is real text. Type kajmak or trout and the list narrows as you go.

Booking starts on your site

65%

of diners in a Toast survey go straight to the restaurant's website to book, and 44% get frustrated or stop trying when booking is hard.

Source: Toast reservation survey (sells restaurant software)

What we do

A Reserve button sits on every page and stays on screen on phones. The table request is one short form.

Keep the order yours

58%

of customers prefer a restaurant's own app or website for delivery. DoorDash launched its US plans at 15%, 25% and 30% commission.

Source: NCR Voyix 2025 report via Restaurant Dive (sells restaurant technology), and Restaurant Dive, 2021

What we do

If you take orders online, the site links straight to your own ordering page, with no marketplace in between.

Hours where people look

4 of 10

of the top-grossing US independent restaurants show opening hours on the homepage.

Source: Our read of 10 websites, 5 Nov 2026

What we do

Hours sit in the first screen, and the menu says what runs until when, like breakfast until 12:00.

04Checked

What the top independent restaurants put on their homepages.

We opened the websites of the ten top-grossing independent restaurants in the US. All ten link a reservation and show the menu as text. Six of them still keep the opening hours off the homepage.

  1. A reservation link

    10 of 10 top restaurants

Our example: Yes, a Reserve button on every page

  2. The menu as real text, not only a PDF

    10 of 10 top restaurants

Our example: Yes, in two languages

  3. A phone number you can tap

    8 of 10 top restaurants

Our example: Yes, one tap on a live site

  4. The street address

    7 of 10 top restaurants

    Our example: Yes

  5. Opening hours

    4 of 10 top restaurants

Our example: Yes, in the first screen

  6. A search box for the menu

    0 of 10 top restaurants

Our example: Yes, by dish or ingredient

07Questions

Straight answers.

Still not sure?

Ask on a short call, or start with something free.

01Is Vidikovac Zmajevac a real client?

Yes, it is a past client in Sarajevo. This site is a redesign concept we made to show what a restaurant website from us looks like. It never went live, and it is not the restaurant's own website. The menu, prices and hours come from its old site and 2024 menus, so they may be out of date. Phone, booking and forms on the concept are not connected.

02Will my menu be a PDF?

No. Your menu goes on the page as real text, so it reads well on a phone and Google can read every dish. If you also want a PDF for printing, we link it next to the menu.

03Who updates the menu when prices change?

We can. Small edits to text, images and prices are part of the $99 Site Care plan, so a new dish or price is one message away.

04Can you connect OpenTable, Resy or Toast?

Yes. The Reserve button can open the booking tool you already use, or send a simple table request to your email if you do not use one.

05Can the site be in two languages?

Yes. The Vidikovac concept has its home, menu, photos and find us pages in English and Bosnian, one tap apart. Tell us your languages before we start, because each one adds pages to write and check.

06How does the $0 website work?

We build your website for $0: our Business or Premium package, depending on the project, worth up to $2,990. The website is yours to keep, with the design, the code and the files. The monthly plan is the service around it: $99 a month for Site Care (hosting, SSL, changes, backups and a short monthly report), or $295 a month for Local Growth, which adds local SEO, review requests and an AI phone assistant. The first month of the plan is free, then there is a 12-month minimum. If you want to leave before the 12 months are up, you pay either the months that are left or the website's price minus what you have paid so far, whichever is less, and you take your files with you. After the 12 months you can stop at any time and host the site yourself.

07How do I pay if I buy the website?

50% to start and 50% at launch, plus the optional care plan at $49 a month for hosting, backups, small edits, uptime and form checks and a monthly report.

08How long does a website take?

Launch in about 1 week, Business in 2 to 3 weeks, Premium in 4 to 6 weeks, counted from the day we have everything we need. Custom work gets a date in writing before you pay.

09Do I own the website?

Yes. You own the site, the code and the domain, and we hand over the files whenever you ask.

10What if I want changes?

Websites have unlimited revisions within the agreed pages and features. We keep working on it with you until you are 100% happy.
